Life Coaching
Many people in our culture are looking to shift from a mindset of having to a mindset of being. They find themselves restless and unfulfilled, despite their successful careers, flourishing social circle, comfortable lifestyle and doing everything “right.” To facilitate looking at where the unease is rooted, instead of merely polishing the symptoms, it may be helpful to look at which beliefs and assumptions they base their behavior and emotional responses on.
Our beliefs and values, like our culture, are what we grew up with; they’re the rules to the games we know how to play. When going through a life transition like a change in relationship status, moving to a new country on an international assignment, or your children leaving to go to college, you may find that those rules have been changed on you, and suddenly your usual behavior doesn’t yield the desired results anymore. The beliefs you grew up with that made sense all this time somehow do not apply to your new surroundings, leaving you feeling ineffective and frustrated, not quite able to pinpoint what’s wrong. What, for example, if you live according to the belief that “time is money,” and find that you’re more tired than usual, spending less and less time with your family, having difficulty concentrating? Your work ethic may be admired in certain circles, but is it getting in the way of your living a balanced, healthy life?
Clients who hire me
- Clients who hire me want to get to know themselves to understand their motivations and emotions better. By gaining a deeper understanding of themselves they positively influence their relationships one step at a time.
- I work with people who want to know where their time goes to help them use it more efficiently, procrastinate less, and get more done while creating more opportunity for relaxation.
- Clients work with me to develop their own definition of happiness, and to learn tools how to choose it on a daily basis.
- People I work with will always remember how to formulate realistic goals and which steps to take to reach them.
- Many people hire me as their accountability partner and idea sounding board, because they appreciate an independent, unbiased and confidential opinion.
- There was a time when I felt resentful about my husband’s expat assignment, spending many months unhappy and confused. Not knowing who I was meant to be had me to questioning my sense of self, my purpose, and caused tension in my marriage. I enjoy sharing with fellow expat spouses the possible strategies how to overcome that struggle and open up and make the most of the many different opportunities international life offers.
Life Coaching won’t tell you to let go of your beliefs, but it can support you in finding new ways to approaching that new situation, making a change for the better. If that sounds like something you’d like me to accompany you in, please contact me at doris(at)buildingthelifeyouwant(dot)com. And because it’s my birthday today, I would like to make us both a gift, and say that you get to name my fee.
Yes, that’s right, you have many things on your plate so you decide which fee will hold your attention enough to take our work together seriously.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon!
With love and gratitude, Dee xx
